In both cases I fitted the hardware myself, then off to the dyno to finish the job. My past experience in this sort of thing is limited to my two Yam MT's. I am lucky to have a very good dyno-man nearby and I am not going to mess too much with the gasflow without the benefit of his expertise. either a Speed Twin specific unit, or someone demonstrates transferability of Thruxton one). In any case I won't go beyond V+H until a PCV is available (i.e. If they sound OK (and I suspect they might), then might not even bother with the decat (don't want to be heard from 3km away!). Yup - must admit that was my thinking on the test ride - she's pretty sweet! However, I do know I want a bit more sound (for the freeway run into town more than anything else), so open V+H mufflers are going on pretty sharpish. So, my question (at last!) is do you guys think the PCV for the Thruxton would work on the Speed Twin? There is not a model-specific one out yet. Now, I have a pair of the VH slip-ons (US), so for sound will try those no baffle with cat in- if that makes a decent enough noise might not go any further as from test ride the bike has plenty of grunt anyway.īUT - if not a decent sound improvement (any probably sometime anyway) I will try the x-pipe with the baffles in (don't want to wake the dead!)īUT - if I am going to do the x-pipe will want to finish the job with the power commander Power Commander is not strictly necessary, but does finish the job by optimising fuelling Intake airflow can be balanced for increased exhaust flow by simply removing the snorkel X-pipe decat is doable within existing ECU parameters without causing dangerously over-lean conditions What I gather from talk on Thruxton 1200, which seems to be basically the same motor, bar a few lighter rotating parts is: Motivation is partly to restore a proper air/fuel ratio throughout the rev/throttle range, part sound (I do like to be heard coming in the morning freeway madness!) On last two bikes (both Yamaha MT's) the first thing I have done is put on a new pipe (de-cat), increase air intake to match and get ECU flashed the to add extra fuel (I am lucky to have a skilled dyno tuner nearby). While waiting for Speed Twin to arrive, I have been trawling the forum (and others) for advice on opening up the gasflow and tuning accordingly.
